About Friends of Puerto Rico: is a non-profit 501(C)(3) that supports the economic development of the people of Puerto Rico through entrepreneurial initiatives, education, and creating opportunities for women and girls. Since 2015, we have mobilized a passionate community of over 30,000 global entrepreneurs, donors and partner organizations focused on driving economic success and innovation to cultivate the next generation of leaders. Through a combination of training, education and mentorship initiatives that utilize the beautiful culture, art and people of Puerto Rico, our goal is to end financial hardship and provide economic opportunities and self-sufficiency for people on the island, in Washington, DC and around the United States. 

Job Overview

Title: Fellow

Job Type: 11-month, paid, part-time

Location: Virtual


Job Purpose

  • A Fellow with Friends of Puerto will champion innovative ideas that transform society’s systems, provide benefits for everyone, and improve lives through initiatives like SEEDS and Café AmaLove

  • Our fellowship is an excellent opportunity to grow and impact communities in a span of 11 months

  • You will be an integral part in this endeavor and work closely with our President, Angelique Sina, to focus on sustainability and self-sufficiency for Puerto Rico

  • This role will require working in a virtual set-up


About You

  • You will pave new road maps, charter projects and lead initiatives, while providing solutions and demonstrating grit to ‘Make Things Happen’.

  • You are a life-long learner, ambitious with a go-getter personality, and a passion to make a difference

  • You have interest or experience in non-profit organizations, philanthropy, and the social impact sector

  • You are hands-on and believe in doing things that are out of the ordinary. If yes, then this place is for you.

  • You are creative, attentive to detail, and and enjoy working within a small, dynamic entrepreneurial environment 

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop social impact partnerships and assist with various outreach programs as needed

  • Research potential sponsors and donors

  • Serve as primary contact for internal and external communication

  • Liaise with internal teams for planning, logistics and marketing activities especially for the scaling of Café Ama and other initiatives that will be communicated as needed

  • Assist with the inventory management for Café Ama

  • Drafts letters, personal correspondence, donation letters and other tasks on behalf of the President

  • Update process-related manuals as needed

  • Plan and manage special events that will be communicated as needed

  • Supervise and coordinate with volunteers and interns as needed

  • Prioritize conflicting needs, all types of matters expeditiously and proactively

Job Requirements:

  • Must be a rising senior or pursuing a masters degree

  • Available to work 30 hours a week

  • Comfortable working in a virtual mode 

  • Fluent in English and Spanish

  • Excellent writing skills  (especially emails, memos and thank you letters etc.)

  • Possess a flair for research 

  • Proficiency with MS-Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

  • Prior intern experience preferred

  • Grant writing ability is a plus

  • Volunteer experience is a plus
